Meyer Turku, part of a leading European shipbuilding company Meyer Werft, handles during their busiest times even hundreds of hot work permits daily. The management of the permits used to be manual: the permits were printed out and pinned to ship walls and pillars on site. This made it difficult to have a good overview of the whole situation at the dockyard.
Together with Meyer Turku we started to work on a solution to enhance the whole permit process. As a result, we developed a digital hot work permit management system that is accessible with a mobile device. The solution makes life easier and safer at the dockyard in many ways.
The permit process is faster because the application is quick to use and it remembers the prior permits. Meyer Turku reports that the employees are satisfied that even at the busiest times they do not have to wait long for obtaining a permit. Prior to the solution getting a permit might take even up to 30 minutes- now the process only takes a few minutes. This is a win-win situation, because everybody benefits as the work can be started more quickly.
The solution also makes the supervision of the granted permits easier since it is possible to have a good understanding of all the ongoing hot works of the dockyard. Digital hot work permit management allows you to have real-time follow-up of performed hot works, which enhances the supervision.
All in all the permit process is a lot faster and easier. Meyer Turku reports that the digital hot work permit management has simplified the permit process in general and the employees have embraced the solution positively.
